How to Compare

Hi Y11
If you missed today's lesson, it is imperative you look at this and do the task. This is the least well done exam skill so, if you can really get it down, you'll be sorted!
Don't be intimidated by it - it is an excellent response; however, you have the skills to do this as it is just building on PEE+.

  1. Is this the structure: an intro , then 2 of those paragraphs for similarity and difference and then conclusion

  2. Yep. As long as you are merging the theme of poem/ what happens and comparison in your intro - keep it very brief and be quick! Two very detailed paragraphs. Obviously, if you finish these after 20 minutes don't kick back and not write any more: write for a full 40 minutes (planning in the other 5). Use the skills we've worked on - pick a quote say loads about it, draw on an individual word, comment on structure, link to question (i.e. what they say about Conflict). Have a quote you can say absolutely loads about for each poem would be the trick...

  5. An overview really of what you've said. So Both poets show feelings of pain and loss/ strong attitudes (basically, link to question) about conflict using.......... Bring together a comparative conclusion, might also be the time to say which on eyou think is better and why...
    I'll try and get some sample exam answers for tomorrow.

  10. How big is a whole?! If you look at the model in this ppt, that's a good guide on how to use them in a paragraph. Trick is not too long, not too short!
